Valentine's Day

Valentine's weekend was so much fun! On Friday we went to the Draper Temple open house. It is so beautiful!

After the temple we went and babysat together at the Mannings. We played lots of Wii, Connect 4, and Guess Who. It was fun babysitting together! And we made $50 on our date! Pretty sweet! After babysitting we went to Sean's stake Valentine's Dance.

Saturday was actually Valentine's Day. Sean came to get me and I gave him a paper chain countdown to our wedding. I wrote something on the inside of each link for him to read when he takes it off. Look how long it is! 112 days!

And I made us some sweet matching pajamas!

Sean didn't tell me what we were doing for dinner and he made me play hot and cold to find out where we were going. I told him which way to turn and he told me hot or cold. We ended up at Sean's house. He had a nice little table set up in his basement with candles and roses.

Madelynn served us our dinner...chicken and tortellini...and we had creme brulee for dessert! It was really fun and everything was so good!

Sean gave me enough chocolates so I can eat one every day until we get married. He also gave me a straightener because mine broke at Christmas. Yay! We went ice skating with Sean's familia. It was way fun...Sean only knocked me down or dropped me a few times! Sean kept trying to do tricks and slide underneath my legs...it didn't work so well.

After ice skating we watched a chic flick with Madelynn, Aprille and Joe. Today is Sunday. My family had our traditional Valentine's Dinner with heart-shaped meatloaf and biscuits. We even had heart-shaped ice cubes this year! Andrea and Jeremy were here for dinner too. And our favorite neighbor Anna! Such a fun weekend!!

Our Love Story

I wanted to make a blog about how we met and started dating. Sean and I both applied to be FCCLA officers for our senior year because we had friends in there. So we officially met at the end of our junior year and started getting to know each other the beginning of the next year. It was fun having FCCLA together! We got to go on fun retreats and always had reasons to get excused from classes for FCCLA business....

I thought Sean was pretty cute and I think I started liking him a long time before he liked me. I so liked her before she liked me. She even rejected me the first time I asked her out. I asked her to Christmas Dance by writing a letter to Santa saying all I wanted was for Melanie to go to the dance with me. I left that letter and some cookies, milk and carrots on her porch. I guess I was a bad boy that year because she turned me down the next morning. I couldn't go because I had a Minerette competition! I was sooo sad I couldn't go with him because I really wanted to! I told him I wanted a raincheck. After the many tears I finally cashed the raincheck and asked her to prom. Lucky for me this time she said yes. It was a way fun date. we had it downtown at the Union Pacific Building. She looked beautiful. It was a wonderful night!

We started dating a little bit after prom and Sean finally held my hand for the first time right before graduation. He was pretty scared... I was, it's true. I had never held a girls hand before. I'm a loser. I was even more scared to kiss her. That took another month or two of building up my courage and trying to figure out if she liked me or not. He kissed me the night before my 18th birthday and the day I moved up to Rexburg for school. I must admit though...I was scared for my first kiss too. We emailed while I was in Idaho and I found any excuse I could to go home for a visit. He even came up once to visit me for a weekend! We were pretty funny. I would call her once or twice a week and we would end up talking until who knows when. I think one night we talked until like 4:30 in the morning. It was ridiculous now that I think about it. We both got like two hours of sleep that night. Then it came time for me to prepare for my mission so I made the decision to break up with her so she wasn't having to wait for me, actually, also so I wouldn't get a "Dear John." I was sad but I wanted him to get ready for his mission. That is definitely what I wanted him to do. We still did things together during the summer before he left for Argentina so it was all good.

I missed Sean so much while he was gone! I couldn't wait for him to get home! I had no idea what would happen...but I was excited for him to be home again! I wasn't sure what was going to happen when I got home. I still liked her but I got way scared towards the end of my mission. Most of my mission I thought I would get home and if she was still around we would get married quick. But the last few transfers I was way scared and didn't know what to do. So when I got home I told her I wasn't ready for a serious relationship. I knew he would need time to adjust when he got home and I totally understood. But it didn't take him long to change his mind. I felt bad the rest of the week. So four days later I told her I did want to date her and that I had just freaked out a little bit. So we have been dating since August again and it has been completely wonderful! He makes me so happy! She is perfect. I love her. And now we're getting married!

We're Engaged!!

Hi this is Melanie....and Sean! We just got engaged on January 23rd! I was completely shocked! Sean did a good job of surprising me. We had never actually talked about getting married so it was a big surprise. Sean told me we were going downtown to watch the Joseph Smith movie with Joe and Aprille. We had been wanting to do that for awhile. Their ward got tickets and everyone was dressing up and we were tagging along....but it was all a lie! I had bought the ring exactly a month before. So I just kept it in my closet so no one would know about it. I had picked the date I wanted to propose then. I don't know why January 23rd seemed like a good idea but it is what I chose. I made reservations two weeks in advance for the dinner. I wouldn't tell Melanie where we were going. When Sean turned into the Joseph Smith Memorial Building parking I knew he was taking me to the Roof. I thought he might have told me to dress up for the movie just so we could look nice for dinner...but I was not thinking anything else. We went to the Roof and ate dinner and during dessert at 6:50 her dad walked in with the video camera and I knew it was time to pop the question. He didn't even seem nervous during dinner at all! We had the perfect table right in front of the temple. It was so beautiful! It was the second most scary thing I had ever done. The first being asking her dad if I could ask her. When I saw that her dad was in place to record I asked Melanie if she was wearing the watch I had given her for Christmas. I bought it for the purpose of using it in this moment. She said no, and then I asked if she knew why I had given that to her. She of course said no. He told me he gave me the watch for a special reason and I was trying so hard to figure out what it could possibly be. I was trying to think what it looked like....maybe there was something on it....I couldn't figure it outI then said that I bought the watch for time, then I reached my hand in my pocket, stood up, got on my knee with the ring and said, "I got this for time and all eternity." I was so surprised I could not even say anything. I just sat there staring at Sean and the ring. Seriously, I didn't even say a word. I just couldn't believe it! She was so shocked! She didn't even say anything for the longest time. I didn't know what to do or how to react to her reaction. Finally he asked if he could put the ring on me and I said yeah. I saw a flash and turned and saw Sean's dad across the room. A minute later I saw my dad with a video camera. Everyone knew about this except me! I had absolutely NO idea he was proposing....and that he had a ring for so long! Not everyone knew. Only our parents and my sister Aprille knew about it. The ring is beautiful! I love it! Sean did such a good job picking one for me! We went back to Sean's house and my family came over. We told everyone and celebrated with root beer floats! We're getting married!! I'm so excited! Best day ever!!

I put a little video together that you can watch. It's a little shaky but it's still fun!
